A Week in the International City

Last Sunday we rolled into Warner Robins so that my hubby could do his computer stuff at the base there. I was a little apprehensive about the hotel---it was a very nice hotel, but it had no pool, no exercise room, and no (gasp) computer. I really really need a laptop. Santa, are you reading this? However, the hotel had a tv. During our time there, I caught up with some favorite shows and some new shows:

Rockstar: Supernova
We are still keeping up with Rockstar: Supernova. Our favorite female at this point is Storm Large. You know you are impressed with her too. We don't know what male we are pulling for yet. They are too pretty-boy to run with that group. By the way, does anyone else (who knows my uncle) think that JasonNewsted looks like a young version of my Uncle Carey?

Project Runway: I caught up finally. Love the hat that was really a bowl. Love the host dude. Heidi Klum is amazing. Still think that she and Seal are a strange couple.

My Life on the D-List: Now I see what people are talking about. Loved it. Still haven't seen all the episodes, but it was great. I thought Ray Romano was kind of a butthole to her at her party.

And of course, Luke controlled what we watched for most of the day---thank goodness for Georgia Public Television. He was pacified watching Clifford (and I still don't understand how Clifford could have been a tiny dog and then a dog as big as a house---implausible!), Caillou (what kind of name is that?), "the bobbies" (aka Teletubbies), and Between the Lions. He doesn't like It's a Big World. Snook, the main character, is a sloth that seems like he's been smoking some doobies.

When I wasn't becoming VEAL watching tv, we went to restaurants. Sunday we bypassed the Cafe Erotica (no thank you...a sign above it said "WE BARE ALL!") and ate at the Logan's Roadhouse, where a dude we decided to call Seabass was behind us with a woman and her kids. He was, it seems, on a date with the redneck woman and he grossed Chris and me out by burping a long disgusting burp and then saying, "Tasty! I've been saving that one." At first Chris and I thought it was one of the teens with him, and thought we'd hear a good scolding, but no, Chris mouthed the words, "It was the MAN!" Ew. Seabass later entertained his group by using his fork and knife to drum on the table, to throw peanut shells on the floor and then exclaim, "I'd hate to work here!", and tell really dumb jokes.

On Monday, after I spent the day reading and completing a new syllabus for my honors class, Chris got home ("home") and we visited the sad mall there (full of things that shouldn't be in a mall, like a dollar store and close out places) and ate dinner at Johnny Carinos, where the faux Macaroni Grill food was okay and where once again, Luke showed us that we are at the point where we really can't take him out to eat anymore. We get about 20 minutes of good behavior and after that, we have an annoying, loud child on our hands.

Tuesday I ventured out of the hotel room and took Luke to the Aviation Museum, which was a nice excursion. If you like planes. I think they are okay. Luke enjoyed looking at them, I think. Driving back to the hotel I spied not only a GOODWILL but a GOODWILL EMPORIUM. I was psyched and hummed happily as I got Luke out of the car and into a cart. It was a good hour. I found some (looks like) never worn Old Navy jeans, a bunch of dressy Old Navy shirts and a Tommy H sweater that also looks like it was never worn. Luke scored a horse and a tiny grocery cart. For my classroom, I got a DVD of A Midsummer Night's Dream. Luke continued to have a good day when, after my hubby came "home", we took him to DJ's Galaxy Quest, where he could run around a bunch of soft toys, climb stuff, and bounce in a big bouncy thing. For dinner, we ate at a Mom and Pop kind of place, a pizza place, which was great until we got home and realized the restaurant should have been called The Gut Punch. Ouch.

Wednesday I got up close and personal with the Mexican maid and her daughter, who played with Luke while she cleaned the room. I don't think the maid liked me very much. Perhaps it was the dirty diapers? Don't know. Anyway, Luke liked the Mexican kid who told me she still lived in Mexico. I wanted to ask her a lot of questions, but I kept my mouth shut. Later, at McDonalds, Luke climbed to the top of the indoor playground thingy and about made me have a heart attack. I had to send a little girl up there to get him out. We also spent a lot of time at Old Navy that day and I let him play his heart out with the Thomas Train table at Books-a-Million. Well, until a couple of gross mamas with their bratty kids came over and I didn't want Luke to get pushed around by the older kids. I scored a three dollar hardback of The Kite Runner at BAM (my next book after ATOTC). Wednesday was also our anniversary and Chris arrived at the hotel with a bunch of flowers for me (sweet!) and then we ate at Ruby Tuesdays. ;)

Thursday I took Luke to the Dollar Store and got some school supplies and got him a smiley face balloon. He was so excited over the balloon. I tied it around his wrist, but not tight enough. It slipped off his wrist as soon as I put him in his car seat. He and I watched his smiley faced balloon drift off far far away. I got that lump in my throat FOR him and felt bad. He just put his arms out and said, "Where balloon?" I went to TJ Maxx and found two pairs of shoes. Love them. Chris calls one pair my "Jennifer Aniston shoes" because they are pointy. We ate dinner in the room because we were tired of wrestling with the boy at the restaurants, and it was okay.

Friday, I was so pumped that it was my last day in WR that I just stayed indoors, staying out of the HEAT. It reached 100 most days. Ugh. I finished book two in Tale of Two Cities and got a bunch of school planning done. I also read a lot of magazines. I feel sorry for Nick Lachey. Isn't that stupid? That I actually feel sorry for that dude? Anyone else? Chris got to leave work early and we hit the road. It was hard getting OUT of WR. Every sign said, "Warner Robins, Macon". Thanks to a cellphone call with Tanner (who knows that area well) we got the heck out of dodge.

I'm glad we went with Chris to keep him company, but man, I really need a laptop. I felt like I was in rehab---from being addicted to the computer. It kinda hurt! :) I felt so out of the loop!

I'm glad you are back & I wish you had a laptop too! Don't ever go out of town again without one.
I kinda feel sorry for Nick...From the interviews I've seen with him, he was kinda blindsided with it all. But he is now living it up with Vanessa Manilo.
And HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!

So, Crystal, you gonna be sending me a laptop for my anniversary present? :) Those suckers are not cheap. Chris saw me looking at them online today and goes, "Why do you need a LAPTOP? Denied!"

LOL

I think Sumter is in the running with WR. WR is on my list of places I wouldn't mind Dany being stationed...only because it's close to home. Enjoy whats left of your summer vacation! Charlotte

Jen...have you considered writing a grant for one (or more) for your classroom?

You just never know when you may need to bring one home...

HAHA Cindy. Good idea. That's what I did when I used to have a digital camera for my newspaper at the inner city junior high school I worked at in 2002. ;)

Chris is starting to consider getting me one--he was asking me some questions about them today! YAY! Maybe.......

I want to program one with different sounds like: applause, groaning in disapproval, the "you screwed up" sound, and crickets chirping and use them when I'm giving a lecture and make dumb jokes. ;) I'd be like David Letterman.

Max, stop rolling your eyes.

You mean the "We bare all!" signs at the Cafe Erotica didn't make you want to stop in? Hmmm....must just be me. Everytime we go by that place I ask Tanner to take me in there. [insert eye roll]
