Mr. Bob Update

My next door neighbor, Mr. Bob, has caregivers on shifts now. They come and go and I'm starting to learn their routine. Earlier today, Luke and I headed over there after watering the flowers and I talked with the caregiver on duty for a while. She had children in the school district so we had some stuff to talk about. Mr. Bob likes to sit on his front porch (even in this heat!) and doesn't like the fan to hit him. Once I tried to put the fan to blow directly on his face and he let me know that wasn't for him!

Chris made his famous gumbo this evening and before he did, he told Mr. Bob and the caregiver that he was bringing some over tonight. When I walked over there, Luke in tow, with a big batch of gumbo and rolls, Mr. Bob was sitting at the table in his jammies looking through a Times Events of the Decade book. I saw a picture of D-Day/on the beach stuff and thought about how he, Mr. Bob, had been there. Cool, huh? I wish I could talk to him about it.

As soon as he saw me...okay, as soon as he saw the food, he said, "Oh...boy!" He can't say much because of the stroke, so that was really neat, hearing him say that. Luke had brought over his badminton racket and was hitting the floor with it, like he was Mr. Magoo or something. Mr. Bob loves Luke and is always patting him and Luke pats him on his knees sometimes too.

I feel a real need to keep an eye on that old man.

Sorry if this is a downer kind of post. Y'all just seemed interested in this situation...so there you go.

How sad....I'm glad you're there. I bet Luke is a bright spot in his day everytime.

Not at all! I think it's really nice of you to check in. I'm sure Luke is good medicine for Mr. Bob. I remember how long you waited for a neighbor like him. Keep us posted!

I think this post is the exact opposite of a downer! The fact that there IS a Mr. Bob isn't sad...it's a fact of life. That's why I find this to be an UPPER because the reality is that you are doing exactly the right thing for him. Actually, you are going above and beyond and I think it's wonderful!

I need to find out Mr. Bob's last name sometime...I wonder if my Granddaddy (the one at 2805 Your Street) knows him.
